Yard Envy, Fall Flowers & Monthly Garden Tasks

Volume 4, Issue 9 - September thru October 2009

Yard Envy!

I love the last day of a Landscape Installation.  After all the planning, preparation, scheduling and coordination that goes into executing a beautiful new landscape, I truly love the feeling my Team and I get on the last day of a landscape installation.  Whether it is a beautiful new flower bed or a relaxing new home for Koi (colorful Japanese Fish) or even a simple stone pathway, I know of only one other thing that makes me feel better about all the hard work . . . our Clients feedback about how much they are enjoying their little part of paradise.

Here is an actual email we received recently.  We copy and pasted as to protect their privacy.  If you would like to read descriptions and see some pictures of this landscape, check out our FaceBook Fan Page.  Just look up Big Blue Sky Landscaping and check out the Graham Residence.  We had SOOOO much fun with this project.

I have been taking lots of Pictures and will have much more added soon.  Happy Fall!

Catharine - “Scott, we get accolades all the time if we’re out front and neighbors are walking by. This one was actually an email (start at bottom). I thought you might enjoy what one of our neighbors sent us. They’re the guys 2 houses over. They’ve walked by a couple of nights while we’ve been out front having wine and watching the hood and joined us.”

Neighbors -“Hey Catharine…I just have to tell you that your yard looks AMAZING!!!  I love coming down Michigan and seeing it everyday.  You ladies need to be on the garden tour!”

Catharine -“Oh my gosh, you are so kind to send this. Thank you so much. We are really pleased with it too. I was just telling Sharon the other day how tickled I am that I actually love our yard, however all the credit goes to ‘our guys’, Big Blue Sky Landscaping. They rock.”

Fall Flowers

Every Fall about this time we get excited.  Heck . . . we’re always pretty excited about something.  We’re having loads of fun!

Each Fall we have the coolest opportunity to design, plan, schedule, install and manage awesome pockets of vibrant flowers all over the Atlanta and Decatur area.  What’s the most fun is creating something new and watching it positively affect peoples’ moods.

Last Fall we had just finished installing flowers for a client in Inman Park.  We were just finsihing cleaning up when a women approached us.  She placed her hand on my shoulder and waited for me to look her in the eyes. Slowly, she said she loved the garden we had just planted.  She waited every year to see what we were going to do next.  See had been watching us for four years!

She lived just up the street.  Every day she walked past this home on her daily stroll.  She said she always stopped for a moment to enjoy the garden.  It was something she looked forward to.  I asked her if she had a garden.  She did not. This was as close as she got to having one.

This simple conversation reminded me how fortunate we’re to have our own place to enjoy beautiful flowers and shrubs.

This Fall plant flowers.  (we can help!)

Trick or Treaters are sure to enjoy them as they walk to your door.  Family and Friends will feel more welcomed at Thanksgiving and Christmas.

They will keep you in better spirits come January.  In fact, they will be there waiting for you through April, smiling back at you.

Happiness is always a worthwhile investment.

Fall Aeration

September is here and Fall is near.  You will be receiving a call soon from us to schedule your Annual Aeration and Overseeding.  This service provides for Power Core Aeration of your lawn areas, Application of Fescue Seed and Initial Fertilization.

We have dedicated the weeks of September 21st and 28nd for clients of Big Blue Sky Landscaping.  We will be providing this service to the public as well as other landscape companies throughout fall.  It is important that we get you on the schedule as soon as possible to assure the best lawn of the year.

Who's the new Guy?

This past year’s recession has been hard on many people.  Myself included. But I have always taken the approach that every dark cloud has a silver lining.  As luck would have it, some very qualified people began to apply to our growing company.  Our reputation is out!

We are very happy and excited to welcome Nathan Waters to the Big Blue Super Crew! Nathan (We all call him Nate) is a accomplished professional.  Originally from Kentucky, he earned his Undergrad and Masters Degree in Agricultural Education and came to Georgia to teach and lead a FFA (Future Farmers of Ammerica) program.  Budget restrictions forced him out of the classroom and made him look for a place that could utilize his unique skill set.

We worked with Nate for the past few years.  In fact, he was Jimmy and Justin’s teacher in High School!  He laid the groundwork for some of our best Team Members!

Timing is perfect.  As our company grows, it is getting harder for one or two managers to run the daily operations smoothly.  Nate will be a great addition to our Management Team.  He is beginning as a Landscape Management Crew Supervisor.

He is in the field every day getting dirty, learning our processes and procedures, earning the respect of our staff and clients.  He’ll be introducing himself to you shortly (if he hasn’t already).

When you see him, welcome him to the Team.
