Super Special Plant Deals!
Fall is near and planting fever is sure to ensue. We have worked with our suppliers to provide you with special deals on some of our favorite plants. As always we can incorporate these specials into a complete landscape design and install them for you.
Fragrant Tea Olive (left)
This is an old southern plant that has yet to be trumped. It is a medium to large evergreen shrub that provides a wonderful screen when planted in mass, a great foundation focal point or a perfect patio tree (pruning required). Its growth habit is upright to 12’ by 4’ wide. It tolerates heavy pruning and drought. Cultural needs are minimal when planted in a well prepared landscape bed. What really sets this plant apart though is the AWESOME fragrance each Spring and Fall! Yes, twice a year. Flowers, small and inconspicuous, are highly fragrant and smell similar to Apricot.
We are offering large 7 gallon plants for $55 each. (That’s 40% off normal!). There is no minimum order. This Super Special Plant Deal is only for our current clients. And as always, we assure you that quality is goal #1. These plants are fresh from the grower, not leftovers from Spring at a retail nursery. Call, email, or text us your orders.
Aeration and Overseeding Tall Fescue
As Fall approaches and temperatures cool to tolerable levels our Tall Fescue lawns begin their resurrection. And though Fescue is considered and “evergreen” lawn, our hot-long summers can be a bit much for this lawn to overcome. You see, we are in what is considered the “Transitional Zone” when it comes to Fescue. In the Upper South, such as Kentucky, Tall Fescue is preferred for its durability. In climates south of Kentucky and north of North Georgia, Fescue is marginally hardy because of the severity and length of Summer.
Tall Fescue requires annual Aeration and Overseeding to maintain a lush, green lawn. We provide this service in addition to our regular Landscape Management. We have secured a custom blend of Tall Fescue that (backed by University research) provides the best possible lawn for our climate conditions.
But having the best seed blend is still not enough for a lush, lasting lawn. We have tuned up and sharpened our Aerators in preparation of a busy season. We utilize a Core Aerator that actually pulls plugs 2-3” deep. This allows nutrients and seeds to mix with oxygen deep into the soil profile, providing for a deep and healthy root system.
Furthermore, we also incorporate a fertilizer that releases nutrients for a period of six to eight weeks. This provides an extended feeding that helps get your lawn off to a great start.
Finally, this service is not provided year round. Tall Fescue requires special Soil Temperatures and Weather Conditions to germinate. We offer this service from September 15th through October 25th, (longer or shorter based on weather conditions).
Our crews will be leaving notices to our Landscape Management Clients that have Tall Fescue Lawns. Simply send in the postcard, call, email or text us and we will handle the rest. We’ll even help you with when and how much to water when we complete the service!
Landscape Design and Installation
Many of you already know us (and may have hired us) for our Installation expertise. In fact, we have Designed and Installed over 30 landscapes so far this year! This progress has led us to invest more into our company’s resources. We have undergone an educational track that is quite advanced. We have worked to streamline processes and work in the most efficient manner. We have carefully selected equipment and tools that help us reduce our production costs and increase quality. And we have hired some pretty awesome craftsmen.
Most of you, if not all, have had the pleasure to work with Jesse Tatman on a project. Well, I am happy to announce to you that Jesse will be handling all Installation Operations in the Field. Jesse will be working with the landscape installation crews directly, managing each project (still one at a time), insuring quality and making improvements to each project.
We have also worked to Streamline our Design Process. Brad Keeler is our Landscape Architect. He has over 20 years of Residential Landscape Design experience. Now, let me differentiate the difference between Brad and other “landscape designers”. Brad has always focused on the Landscape as a growing, maturing environment. The designs he has provided our clients include detailed drawings of Planting Plans, Hardscape Design, Elevations and more. He brings the proper knowledge of what will look great in ten years, not just the next few.
Jesse and Brad have worked together to produce fabulous landscapes with great Outdoor Fireplaces, Retaining Walls, Waterfalls and Ponds, Stone Patios and Drainage Solutions. The work put into each installation is truly at an Artisan level. No fake stone veneers or prefab structures. Each detail is customized to the client’s preference.
And of course, our Irrigation and Water Solutions is where our focus began. We have some pretty innovative partners in the Irrigation and Water Industry. We have worked with manufacturers and distributors to bring some of the new technology to our clients.
I have spoken with many of our clients as to why they decided to transform their landscape. Simply put, they love their homes and want a place to be with family and friends. As Fall approaches, think about where you spend time and what you would like it to be.
Irrigation
Your irrigation should be set to supplement our natural rain fall. If you own an Outdoor Controller, and our crews have access to it, your controller will be programmed for you. If your controller is located in the garage or another indoor room, we ask that you assist us with programming if our crews will not have access. Programming should be scheduled to supplement natural rainfall. Each system is unique in its design. The following times should be adjusted accordingly.
Drip Zones – Should be watering for approximately 30-45 minutes twice a week for new (less than a year old) beds and once a week for established beds.
Turf Zones – Deep and infrequent watering is best. We are recommending once a week for 45- 60 minutes, or until the point of runoff. If you have a fescue lawn that has recently been Aerated and Overseeded, reduce the time to 10 minutes and increase frequency to twice daily for the first two weeks. Then programming will change. We will provide watering instructions when this service is performed.
Scott’s Backyard
Well… As I sit on my back patio Fall is peaking around the corner. The evening temperatures are cooling. My Crape Myrtles are just about spent. The Lantana that engulfed the perennial beds is slowing down enough to enjoy. And I know soon the Maples and Oakleaf Hydrangeas will be a brilliant red (Go Dawgs!). Summer is waning. Yet if I look closely, there is so much more to come. Black-eyed Susans are making a second effort (completely by accident!). My Tardiva Hydrangeas are still displaying nicely. And pretty soon we will start our Fall Garden. The annual beds will be rotated to the familiar and comforting Pansies and Violas. And my three year old will surely create “Dillon Angels” in the kids’ garden.
When I think about all the time it takes to tend to this place, I smile knowing that just about every moment creating it was spent with the ones I love the most. Sure, the Summer beach vacations and Fall trips to the mountains are great. But I really enjoy sitting here with a glass of Iced Tea, talking with friends and family while the BBQ Grill gently smokes. It’s my vacation. I take it as often as I can.
